Newcastle is an armchair after a model produced post WWII by Ernest Race, one of the most innovative and challenging proponents of British mid century design. Lightweight and slender, his chairs set themselves apart from earlier styles which were much heavier and bulkier. The original chair was selected as a 'design of the year' by the Council of Industrial Design in 1959. His works are now held in the permanent collections of the V&A Museum in London and MOMA, New York. With bench crafted frame and beech splayed legs, upholstered in Grape wool flannel or choice of fabric. Dimensions: 33" W x 32.9" x 36" H
