This piece form part of a body of work which I have created, inspired by the walls at the entrance to" Juliet's House" - in Verona - Italy. Shakespere apparently lived there when he wrote "Romeo and Juliet." In Shakespere's play- set in Verona- the character of Juliet was supposedly inspired by a girl living in this house. As a result tourists, lovers from all over the world, graffiti their names and messages on the walls in the passageway. My fascination with the graffiti on the walls began when I first visited Verona seven years ago. The walls are covered with declarations of love from people of all ages. They are forever changing and evolving - I've been back many times to photograph them. Every year or so new plasterboard walls are erected over the old ones- to create fresh space for people to leave their messages. When they become very dense and full of messages they have a real painterly feel almost like a Jackson Pollack. When I started working on my current collection I wanted to recreate these images from the walls onto furniture and I looked into different possibilities of how to do this. I'm using a process which as far as I'm aware has never been used on period furniture before.
