Maj Persdatter (b.1977) educated 2008 from the Danish Design School, is a Copenhagen based textile designer working with visual art. Maj Persdatter attempts to pick up and renew the textile traditions by combining an ancient and ethnic tradition with todays digital technology. Visually the wall hangings are much inspired of different ancient and ethnic folk-art and expressions, such as oriental carpets, South African murals and Greek vases
Although the inspiration might come from the past, the wall hangings are strong and colorful, vivid, printed with the newest digital print techniques to minimize ecological damage. They are printed on pure cotton and measure about 115x190 cm. As the tapestries of the past were unique, all the wall hangings by Maj Persdatter are printed in a limited edition, numbered and signed. Not only do the wall hangings refine a room by their rich colors and revived ancient allure, but they also provide a valuable base for an improved acoustic.
Her latest exhibition Designers investigating at ksnehallen September 2010, was awarded by the Danish state art council.
